Strategic interventions for Family Poultry: What can be achieved through Research & Development activities? 2012

The e-conference “Strategic interventions for Family Poultry: What can be achieved through Research & Development activities?” took place from 28 May to 15 June, 2012. It was part of the project “Smallholder Poultry Development Programme” which has the objective to raise the international profile of family poultry production and to strengthen and further develop the INFPD. The main goal of the conference was to discuss development opportunities for family poultry production through research, appropriate models and policy support, the potential competition of family poultry with commercial poultry production and the roles of women and networks including INFPD for the future of family poultry under eight sub-topics:

  • 1.The contribution of research to the development of family poultry production systems.
  • 2. The development for livelihoods through family poultry — cost and opportunities.
  • 3. Competing or complementing commercial poultry production systems?
  • 4. Single versus multiple (integrated) interventions for sustainable development of family poultry.
  • 5. Good organizational models for sustainable family poultry development.
  • 6. Women empowerment through sustainable family poultry development.
  • 7. Influencing policy for family poultry.
  • 8. The future contribution of INFPD and other networks to family poultry development.
